A Baby Cup Of Water Makes The Sushi I Snuck In Go...
Ok so, today started quite well actually. I woke up bright and early at 11am (bright and early for a Sunday), I went to the gym for the first time in what feels like forever, I showered excited for the day to start, and then I started to feel dizzy and almost fainted? So I got out of the shower, dried off, fixed myself up just a bit and put on a pair of boxers - so if I did faint someone...

Little Mister Sunshine
I watched Little Miss Sunshine tonight. It’s one of my favorite movies and I love everything about it fromt the directing to the writing to the acting to the score. There’s a really great quote from Paul Dano’s character Dwayne, he says, “If I want to fly, I’ll find a way to fly. You do what you love and fuck the rest.” I thought that was well said. I...

iBlog
Ok so, I am updating my blog from my iPhone for the first time using my new tumblr application. I am at Starbucks and I have about 15 minutes of tape left to transcribe then I’m done for the day. Unfortunately for me, by the time I finish it will be the end of the day. Today is day 10 of No Job, No Alcohol and the 9th day of all things internships. Even though I haven’t done any actual...

I'm On Fire
Ok so, today was my first day at my third internship, Fire Station Agency. It was quite simply, awesome. I had my own little cubicle in an office and I got to sip Starbucks and edit for 9 hours straight. Well, not edit, but organize footage for the editor. So my plan was to be Superintern and stay there til midnight and get all 16 hours of footage organized (I got through half by 6 which was...

M M M My Citation
Ok so today would have been a great day, had I not gotten a citation. That’s right, I got a citation… for talking on the phone while driving. The sneaky bastard pulled up alongside of me out of nowhere on a motorcycle - I never saw it coming, until he turned on his lights. I felt like a deer caught in headlights. So now, not only am I not getting paid to work, but I’m actually...

Work Hard, Get Fat
I’m familar with the “work hard, play hard” method because I’ve done it all my life. I am now starting to familarize myself with the “work hard, get fat” method. I don’t know why, but at the end of the day all I want to do is eat. I can only assume that after working nonstop, I am too tired to lift anything but my arm, and may arm just happens to be...

Ok so let me start this blentry (blog entry) by thanking all of my followers for your loyal blollowing (blog following). There are 13 of you now and even though 1 of you is my other blog (www.thisiswhyihatekids.com) and another one of you is Russell (who isn’t aware he’s still following me), I appreciate all of your support. My tumblarity (basically the tumblr popularity contest) is...

Check Engine
My check engine light won’t stop coming on. I got the mechanic to turn it off (for a hefty price), but now it’s back on. I can’t help but think that this check engine light has a deeper meaning. Perhaps it’s my engine that needs checking? Maybe I’m trying to do too much too fast and need to slow it down. Or maybe I just need a new car. Today was Day 4 of the...

To-Do, To-Did, To-Done
Ok so I started something new to-day. I started a to-do list. Last night, before I fell into a deep slumber, I decided that I would make a to-do list of all the things I needed to get done today and print it out. This morning I decided I would tape it on my wall. And it worked! I did all of the things on the to-do list! That has never happened before, unless it was a to-do list for an event or...

It's Official: I'm Dating Starbucks
That’s right, you heard it here first! I go to Starbucks probably on average about 4/7 days a week. And tonight, Saturday night, I decided that we are officially dating. It’s the only place I seem to be able to focus and get my work done (probably because I can’t access the internet) so why not start a relationship with it? I feel like I spend more time there than my apartment....

No Job, No Alcohol
Ok so I have decided to make a very difficult decision. Since I’ve moved to LA, I’ve cut back on going out and drinking. I’ve tried to focus mainly on finding a job and my own personal work. I’ve been able to get the jobs that I don’t want, but unfortunately not the jobs that I want. I’ve contemplated doing this since I got here, but now I think it’s...

They'll Be There For You
Ok so everytime I make a drastic change in my life (usually a move) I watch the entire series of Friends. Do not ask me why - for I do not know. But, I can tell you my theory. My theory is that during a period of transition and change, the show gives me comfort and makes me happy. I think it stabalizes me in a way and keeps me from getting scared or overexcited about the change. It keeps me...

Me Trying To Be Creative - For The Employer
Ok so a couple of job listings recently have asked for a creative cover letter and a song. So me being me, I wrote a creative cover letter and a song, thinking… these will get me an interview FOR SURE! Well they did not, actually. And what do I have to show for it? A lyrical masterpiece and a beauitul rhyme. So I thought I would share them with you all - my thousands of readers :-) Enjoy! My...

Craigslist(s)
So it turns out that I have been searching only half of the jobs available to me for the past 3 months on Craigslist. Not only are there listings under TV/FILM/VIDEO/RADIO. Apparently, there’s this WHOLE separate category of listings under CREW. Did not know that. Thank you Kevin Babb! I will now be applying to twice as many jobs as before and probably getting 2 responses instead of 1!

You Could Be Happy... Just Not Working At Zara
Let me tell you a story… the story of Ryan & Zara. It all began when my roommate was going to an open call for Zara sales associates. After being convinced to go to the interview, I ended up getting the job as a women’s cashier. Sweet. My preferred pay I put down on my application, based on my retail experience, was $11-$13/hour. I thought this was reasonable due to the fact that...

“Change is the essence of life. Be willing to surrender what you are for what you...”
– My best friend had this quote as her Facebook status a couple of weeks ago and I think it’s very fitting for me at this time in my life. Change is hard, but necessary to get to the places we want to go in life.

Micromanagement
The always credible Wikipedia defines “micromanagement” as a management style where a manager closely observes or controls the work of his or her subordinates or employees - generally used as a negative term. I’ll say. It’s a VERY negative term in my opinion and a horrible way to manage. I have experienced micromanagement firsthand from working at Zara these past few...

My Head Hurts
I am constantly thinking about my career. Scratch that, careers, because apparently I seem to think that I can do anything I want. And I want to believe that it’s possible for me to do whatever I want. But God, there’s a lot of discouragement in this world. And there are a lot of distractions. And sometimes it can seem so incredibly hard to accomplish anything - like everything that I...

Have To Start Somewhere
I saw the film Julie & Julia last night in which one of the main characters, Julie Powell (played by the always adorable Amy Adams), blogs about her mission to cook every recipe in Julia Child’s cookbook, “Mastering The Art of French Cooking”. I connected to her character so much, as I’m sure millions of others that saw the film did as well and are starting their own...
