LO LO LOVE-ing this song. So hot. Sounds like a song from the trailer of a Cameron Crowe film mixed with a song from a Cameron Crowe film - if that makes any sense. Not that I know best what the 70’s sounded like, but this sounds a little 70’s-ish to me.
We all obviously know what it’s like to wake up in the morning feelin’ like P Diddy & that is why we have taken a liking to Ke$ha. No, not Kesha. Ke$ha. She’s a money maker, get it right. When my roommate first sent this to me about a month ago, I was like “this is ghetto.” But, it has grown on me and I actually kind of like now. Didn’t seem like it would be very mainstream successful to me, but hey now it’s in the top 10 on itunes. Just goes to show I’m not always right - as much as I want to be :-) So get it Ke$ha!
"Erbody getting drunk drunk, boys try to touch my junk junk…"
I accidentally posted this song as Jay-Z & Mr. Hudson the other day - why, I don’t know. The song is really soothing - sounds like something that should have been on the soundtrack to Can’t Hardly Wait. Very soft & slow with an old sound. The lyrics aren’t bad either. Apparently Eels have been around for a while though - who knew?
Timbaland Featuring Keri Hilson & SoShy - Morning After Dark
Timbaland is back! But more importantly, KERI HILSON is being featured on approximately not one, not two, but three of the tracks on the album! I absolutely adore Keri Hilson - SO talented & I’m SO happy she’s gotten the success she has from her debut album after having it start off a little rough. And to SoShy, welcome! I’m feeling this song right away, I don’t know how much it will or won’t grow on me, we’ll just have to see. But definitely a good first few listens. There’s this music throughout the chorus that’s very reminiscent of Royksopp’s “You Don’t Have A Clue”. See if you can hear what I’m talking about.
Forget about Jay-Z. This song is all about Mr. Hudson. I am loving loving loving Mr. Hudson. Superb. Mr. Hudson is a band from the UK signed to Kanye West’s (who I despise) label. They are featured on this Jay-Z track from The Blueprint 3 & it’s just so great - until Jay-Z starts rapping. Kidding. I can handle HOV, but seriously if you take anything away from this song, let it be Mr. Hudson. I also recommend “There Will Be Tears”.
Ok let me tell you a story about this song. I was going to post it a few weeks ago, but then I thought no it’s too old and I don’t really have a sense of when it came out and whatnot. So I didn’t post it. Then a couple weeks ago, Perez posted the music vid and so apparently it is pretty relevant. I think the sound of the song, which is very early nineties to me, makes me think it’s older than it really is. It’s totally one of those songs you hear and think, I know that song from back in the day. And then you realize, oh wait it’s new and it just has that vintage 90’s sound. Or maybe that’s just me. Either way, it’s a groovy song.
Ok so, I released my Britney Spears “3” music video this week - to thousands of views. I knew it would grab a little bit of attention, but this video is going more viral than any video I’ve done before. The last time I saw something like this was with our parody of Rihanna’s “Umbrella”, but this is very different. We’ve gotten over 6,000 views in 48 hour period and that is incredible. Please, I encourage you to continue sharing the video to help maximize our exposure. Like I’ve said before, we spent quite a bit of money to make this video & we don’t make anything off of it, so exposure is our only means of success.
I’ve said from the beginning that I was going to try something different marketing wise this time. I have a learned so many things from my social media internship that I wanted to utilize with this music video launch. I am super excited that it has been so successful so far, but I’m super stressed out. I’ve been working around the clock for over 2 months now and more specifically the past week on this video. Tomorrow we will try a new approach and send out a press release to other media outlets. Who knows how that will go? But it’s worth a shot! Special thanks to Russell van Kraayenburg for drafting the press release & David Entin for proofreading it.
Lastly I want to thank you all so so very much because in the end it is you (my family, friends, and followers) that have made this music video a success so far. Everytime you post about it, or you mention, or you comment on it, or show a friend - that’s helping me out so much and I really appreciate that.
What I love so much about LA is that I’m constantly inspired to work and mild success like this only adds to that inspiration.
The final version of “Bad Romance” is finally here and I’m instantly loving it! I only listened to the leaked version because I knew it sounded too underproduced to be legit.Well, it looks as if her and RedOne have done it again!
Even though I’m not really into Twilight at all… yet, this song from the New Moon soundtrack is amazing. Lykke Li is one of my obsessions. I saw her live in Austin in the Spring and she put on quite the show. Check her out.
Although most of the songs on David Guetta’s One Love album are good, none of them have actually stuck with me besides the two that have been released as singles. This one has started to stick. Is sticking with you?
What a beautiful find. I had never heard of them until they randomly played on Hypem today. I was cleaning my bathroom and I thought to myself, “what is this lovely sound?” And that’s how I discovered School of Seven Bells. Apparently it’s a guy and identical twins that make up the band. “Half Asleep” is from their debut album Alpinisms.
It’s Gaga’s version of Britney Spears’ “Quicksand” (which she wrote). Simple as that and I love it! I thought “Quicksand” should have been included on the Circus album, it was a much better song then some of the others. Anyway, enough about Brit Brit. What do we think of Gaga’s The Fame Monster cover? I picked the better of the two, although I must say the other one is equally interesting, if not more. She just looks better in the above pic.
Ok not going to lie, when I first heard this song I thought it was a girl. And that’s not a bad thing at all! I love it actually, good for him for having such a feminine sounding voice - it only makes him that much more unique. You know who he totally reminds me of? Jojo. He is the new Jojo. Ghetto. White. Like 13. I’m sorry, 15, I was way off. But yeah turns out he was discovered on YouTube so props to him. It’s nice to see that anything can happen if you put yourself out there. And I looove the way he sings “Your WORLD is my WORLD…”
I’ve been searching for a better version of this song for what seems like a month or two now and have been unable to find one. A dear friend of mine recommended two other Sia songs last night and so I wanted to post this one before I get obsessed with those two. How amazing is it when you can barely hear a song in a public place, but know immediately that it is beautiful and you have to have it. That’s what happened with this song, I was very fortunate Shazam worked, and now I am sharing it with you.
Ok so if you follow my blogging regularly, which I know that all of you do, then you are aware that I post a new song every morning at 8am and then I try to post another random entry at 10am. How am I able to do this when I am getting ready for work at 8am and busy at work by 10am? Well, Tumblr has this super cool feature where you can schedule when you want to post your blog entries. So I do all of mine every night before I go to bed. Here, let me show you:
Under advanced options, you go to publishing options and select “publish on…”
You then type in the day and time of the week you want to publish your post:
And then you schedule your post:
And there you have it, the mystery is solved. If all goes correctly you are reading this entry around 10am on Wednesday. This feature allows you to post whenever and wherever you want (in the future of course) and I love using it. Blogging is such an interesting thing - sometimes it can cause you so much trouble, but most of the time it’s really a great outlet for all of the stress that can accumulate throughout the day. Like Jay-Z says, “it ain’t for everyone!” But, if you’re curious about it, you should give it a try - you might like it more than you think.
I love me some Deepest Blue. Not everyone is going to like this song, but some of you just might - it takes a little time to grow on you, but once it does, it makes you happy. It’s a throwback from 2004, but it’s worth putting on this blog for you to hear. I will post my favorite song of theirs “Deepest Blue” (yes the song and the group are both called Deepest Blue) soon.
Ok so I have been interning for a PR company doing social media outreach for the past few weeks preparing a campaign that launched yesterday! It was such an exciting day and it all happened so fast - it was by far the busiest day since I began working there. It was really cool to see how everything works and actually sit there and monitor the news and watch the campaign spread from one media source to another. I have done that on my own before with my personal work, but never even close to this scale. I guess I should probably explain the campaign in case you have no idea what I’m talking about.
Wonderful Pistachios launched a campaign yesterday called “Get Crackin’” that includes eight ads featuring relatively well known public figures. Dara Torres, Lauren Caitlin Upton, Wee-man, Adrianne Curry, Christopher Knight, Vincent Pastore, the Dominatrix, & a group of quintuplets each had an ad showing how they open a pistachio. One of the ads featured Levi Johnston revealing that he now uses protection… when cracking open his pistachio. Riiiight. So the ad was cute, clever, funny and today it was pretty much the hottest viral video on the internet (I don’t have a source, but whatever just go with it).
To be part of a campaign like this is incredible and I couldn’t be more grateful. A lot of hard work from so many people goes into something that seems so small from the outside. I have learned so much over the past few weeks that will help me in so many ways and it’s an experience that I’m so lucky to have. The campaign just started though so there’s a lot to do still and I will continue to work my hardest on it. If you haven’t checked out the ads and the new Wonderful Pistachios website yet, check em out! I forgot to mention there’s a video contest you can enter to win $25,000 - no joke.
So Julian Casablancas of The Strokes totally rocks my socks right now and here’s why. He has a solo album debuting in a couple of weeks and I am loving one of the songs from it called “11th Dimension”. I will admit, I heard it about 2 weeks ago and didn’t initially think it was that great. But now that it’s grown on me, I can’t recommend it enough. It has the vocals of The Strokes, but with a different style of music - it’s honestly not THAT different, but whatever it sounds good to me!
I am cannot wait to see Where The Wild Things Are!!! And this song makes me want to see it even more! Karen O’s artistic range is so impressive - she’s so talented. As far as marketing goes, I think they’ve done a brilliant job targeting both adults and kids. I’m curious to see how the film will open next week! In the meantime, enjoy this feel good song from the soundtrack.
This is just heaven in my ears - I love brilliant songs being reinvented like this. “Use Somebody” is one of the best songs of the past year and now Mike Cash and a Latino rapper named AC have put their unique spin on it. It’s exactly what they advise American Idol contestants to do, not just copy the song but to make it their own, and that I think they have done in a way.
Ok so I had a horrible, horrible second half of the day. And I really don’t want to be that person that whines about their problems so I’m going to try and keep the complaining within this paragraph. It’s nothing really, and I hate that I let it get to me. I spent pretty much my entire night looking for royalty free music. And after listening to like 100 sample songs it just drove me insane. And then when I got to my track (truck + sport trac = track) to go home, it wouldn’t start because I was parked downhill on a low tank again. So I sure did walk to the gas station with my gas can to get gas on a Friday eve. It just really sucks because I have a million things in my head that I need to accomplish and I spent the entire evening searching for something and finding nothing. I feel so unproductive. I need a blue sky holiday, real bad, for sure.
Ok and I am done with the venting. So let’s move on to the point I want to make that came about from my endless searching for royalty free music. Does anyone know of a place where artists allow you to use their music for free or for a really low price? Because the places I looked were just terrible - there is some terrible royalty free music out there ya’ll. I’m sorry, but it’s just not good. And I’m the type of person that can see some good in everything, but not the music I listened to tonight. It was almost as if they made it bad on purpose because they knew you weren’t going to be paying much for it. I want to find a place where struggling artists let you use their music for free. And I know what you’re thinking - it’s not fair, they deserve to be compensated. And to that I say - oh yeah, well so do I. I don’t know that I’ve ever been compensated for any piece of my own work that I’ve done. In fact, I haven’t. So I’m right there with the struggling musicians, I’m the struggling filmmaker. So please, if you know any musicians or a place where I can find musicians, please let me know.
And finally, the hot cheetos with limón and the diet coke. As I mentioned in a previous blog post, I am an emotional eater. When I have a bad day, it’s usually diet coke and hot cheetos with limón. I recommend you try it, it can make you feel so much better for a hot minute. And the hotness of the cheetos diverts your attention away from why you had a bad day. And then before you know it you’re passed out on the couch from the tail end of the diet coke sugar rush. Then you wake up in the middle of the night feeling like a mess, brush your teeth, and wonder why your mouth is bleeding, oh no wait - that’s from the hot cheetos with limón. Then you remember you ate hot cheetos with limón and that you need to work out first thing in the morning. And that my friends, is how you solve your problems.
I am now going to watch Project Runway which will most likely make me happy causing me to retract this post. Enjoy it will you can. And thank you for letting me bitch.
Ok so, Wednesday evening I had the privilege to meet a very talented musician named Toby Madigan. I was working at Starbucks and he caught my attention right away because it was obvious that he was there for a different reason. Well, that and he was holding a sign that had “vote for me” written on it. He came to my table and had me and my fellow Starbucks regulars go to his website and listen to his song. So I listened to it and the song was actually really good. Since we all agreed we liked it, he asked us to vote for him so that he could perform the song live at the national equality march next weekend in DC. We of course all voted for him, but it didn’t end there for me.
There’s a certain passion that has to be inside of you to want something so bad to where you go out by yourself and solicit text votes from random strangers. People don’t do that for fun, they do it because they really want something. And he really wanted to win and I saw that. So I accompanied him in getting more votes from drunken strangers at the bars later that night. It was my first time being out since I started “No Job, No Alcohol”, which by the way has now been going on for 44 days. We got a bunch of votes from a ton of people who probably didn’t even know what they were doing.
For a brief moment his passion and his drive were more important to me than my own. Like I knew right away what he wanted and how bad he wanted it and I wanted to help him get it. I can only hope that people are able to see that in me. Because I admire that, I really do. I wish him luck and I hope he gets to go to DC to perform at the equality march.
Ok this is the last time I post about this song and then I’m through. But, if you haven’t downloaded this song or listened to it, please just give it a try already. Would I recommend something that I didn’t think you’d like? It is so much fun and it really will make you want to drop it drop it low girl. Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom!
